A person's truths do not have to be the truths of all; a belief that is different from the rest does not make that belief wrong, nor unworthy of respect. But if one does not speak their truths and live by their beliefs, they don't really have either. Neither do they have the right to the respect of others, simply for their lack of integrity, their lack of courage, and their unwillingness to own straightforward convictions.

If one's truths and beliefs are so insubstantial that they cannot withstand the occasional challenge, how worthy of respect can they possibly be? And if someone cannot respect another's right to his/her own convictions, then they have already arrived at a battle of wits sorely unarmed.

Don't be afraid to speak your truths and live by your beliefs for fear that they will be twisted and misunderstood. If deliberate misinterpretation and viciousness are the only recourse the dissenters have, you have already won. And your prize? You are not the hypocrite.
